"When I decided to be a musician I reckoned that that was going to be the way of less profit, less money. I was sort of giving up the idea of making a lot of money. It was what I loved to do. I would have done it anyway. If I'd had to work at Taco Bell I'd have still been out at night trying to play music.
I don't think it's a good attitude in your life to feel that you have to be rich to have self-esteem.
Do something you really like, and hopefully it pays the rent. As far as I'm concerned, that's success."
-Tom Petty
All of the great ones keep leaving.
I loved this quote above. Sometimes I feel in this world we get caught in the trap of success=money. It is the way we have been taught, and we believe every dollar signed word of it.
To me being rich isn't success. It doesn't mean ultimate happiness. And the people who say it does are lying to you, or themselves. It might bring inititial happiness for a while, but eventually it is fleeting. After all it's just paper. I believe the happiest people are the ones who are happy with what they have. They make the most out of every moment.
Humans are greedy, and short sighted. In the end, you can't take it with you.
And I for one would rather spend my life doing and enjoying what I love; than spend the majority of my time working to build someone else's dreams just to have extra cushion in the bank.
It's worth the risk.
Freedom from the system. To do what you truly love. Even if it means never being "sucessful" at it according to society's standards. To live a life that is full. To appreciate the little things, instead of always looking for the next best thing. To appreicate the struggle. To follow your own chosen path instead of the path laid before you.
It's worth the risk.
RIP Tom Petty...
