Week 4 of Pride 2021 and Wonder Woman

Next to last week of pride you guys!

This weeks flags are near and dear to my heart- well 3 out of 4...

Labrys Lesbian Pride Flag:

This flag isn't widely used or known—and part of the reason may be that the flag was designed by a man, Sean Campbell. But come on- he was gay! He's fam!!

Honestly I love this flag. Not a fan of purple, but I LOVE the symbolism.

The Labrys is featured center- a double-sided axe famously used by the Amazonians.

That's right. Like warrior goddess wonder woman tribe shit!!!

One of the oldest symbols in Greek and Roman civilization- the symbol was also commonly associated with female divinities.

In the 1970s the labrys was adopted as a symbol of empowerment by the lesbian feminist community.

As for the black upside down triangle- Women considered asocial by the Third Reich because they did not conform to the Nazi ideal of a woman (which included homosexual females) were condemned to concentration camps and wore an inverted black triangle badge to identify them.

Some lesbians have reclaimed this symbol, as gay men reclaimed the pink triangle.

And I’m freaking here for it. I mean, claiming a symbol associated with the fiercest women warriors in legends and goddesses? Um yes.

And reclaiming a symbol meant to humiliate us and wearing it with pride? Fuck yesss.

Aromantic Flag:

This one is pretty simple, the Aromantic Flag represents people who do not experience romantic attraction; or do so in a nontraditional way.

They may or may not feel sexual attraction. Just no romantic attraction- oofh I could never be this I need the romance!!

Lesbian Flag:

Tumbler blogger Emily Gwen created this flag in 2018 to be more inclusive than the “lipstick lesbian flag”- and rightfully so, we have a huge spectrum just in the lesbian community.

The colors are meant to celebrate-

Dark orange: Gender non-conformity

Orange: Independence

Light orange: Community

White: Unique relationships to womanhood

Pink: Serenity and peace

Dusty pink: Love and sex

Dark rose: Femininity

Personally speaking, I think we should take this flag and add back in the power of that labrys in the center. Now that would be a powerful flag.

Demi-sexual Flag:

The Demisexual flag represents those that develop sexual attraction to someone only AFTER forming a deep emotional bond with them.

The emotional bond that a demisexual person feels does not necessarily need to be romantically inclined.

The bond could be due to a close and otherwise platonic relationship with the person.

I can totally relate to this. I definitely have to be deeply emotionally connected with someone to want or enjoy sexual things to the highest potential. I've also experienced only being attracted to someone after I get to know them. I think I'm definitely part demi-sexual and part sapio-sexual.

Who out there is aromantic tho?? I want to understand this demographic more because it's so far from me!!

Stay tuned for next week's closing of Pride- with a special poem reading.

Thanks for educating yourselves!!
